Amrita Nepali is a 40 years old Dalit woman who is barely literate. She has been married for 25 years and her husband is a farmer. She has a family of 4; 2 sons and the couple. Their land is steep and slop difficult for farming and irrigation. They possess small piece of land around 1 kattha and a 2-room thatched house. In the farm wheat, corn, millet, potatoes, beans, wheat, etc. are produced according seasonally. The food from the land is enough for 3 months. In all the remaining months, the husband earns for his family through daily wages.

Amrita Nepali was married against her will at the age of 15, by her parents. She suffered a lot in the in-law’s house where there were many members living in a joint family. Her father was also a poor farmer and there were many members to feed. They had a small piece of land in the family hence there was a shortage of food supply and lack of resources to meet the daily expenses. The food produced in the farm was enough for only 3 months. Because Amrita Nepali is a poor woman, people in the village treated her differently. Amrita Nepali says that there is discrimination in the wages as well. After her husband went to India, she was asked to leave the house many times so she left her husband’s house and stayed with her father for a year. After the husband returned from India, he again started behaving rudely and quarreled on a regular basis. When the Social Mobilizer of Sarbodaya Nepal Jumla Bina Nepali informed about the formation of the group Amrita Nepali participate in it. She says that the complexity of being a woman in the social, cultural, economic and political aspects of Nepali society is that we are forced to reach the peak of human trafficking because we women do not understand, but to gain something, we have to lose something. Therefore, before this I did not participate in any group. Because of the family, the husband and mother-in-law had many opportunities. The marriage took place in April 1998. Around 2022/ 2023 the facilitation of Sarbodaya Nepal Jumla and the Italian Foundation’s financial support program for women’s empowerment, such as training on topics such as domestic violence, Chhaupadi, child marriage, women’s workload, uterus, etc.

At first, she was not even able to introduce herself. Now, she has learned a lot because of the facilitation program of Sarbodaya Nepal Jumla.
