  1. Strengthen Economic Empowerment and Livelihoods : Sarbodaya Nepal (Jumla): Advancing Food Security & Economic Empowerment for Marginalized Communities (2018-2025)

Sarbodaya Nepal’s work in Jumla is dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty and malnutrition by targeting the region’s most vulnerable populations. With a focused commitment to equity, our programs have specifically supported poor and marginalized women-headed households, single women from Dalit and Janajati communities, and other economically disadvantaged groups.

From 2018 to 2025, our integrated approach to food and nutrition security has directly empowered 4,035 women farmers through a suite of targeted livelihood activities designed to generate income and improve household nutrition simultaneously.

Our core support has included:

Commercial Vegetable Production: Enabling farmers to shift from subsistence to market-oriented farming, increasing household income and diversifying local food systems.

Small-Scale Grocery Enterprise Support: Providing seed capital and business skills training to establish or expand micro-enterprises, creating sustainable off-farm income streams.

Kitchen Gardening Support: Promoting the cultivation of diverse, nutrient-rich vegetables at home, ensuring direct access to daily nutrition and reducing food expenditure.

This multi-pronged strategy ensures that economic gains directly translate into improved food security and dietary diversity. By investing in the capacity and resources of marginalized women farmers, Sarbodaya Nepal is fostering resilient households and driving inclusive local economic growth in Jumla.

Agro production:

Sarbodaya Nepal strategically harnesses agricultural production as a powerful engine for women's economic and social empowerment. Our programs transform women from subsistence producers into skilled, confident farmers and entrepreneurs, directly linking increased farm productivity with greater gender equality and community resilience.

Through targeted interventions in climate-smart agriculture, we provide women farmers with:

Access to Productive Resources: Including quality seeds, organic fertilizers, and appropriate small-scale tools and technologies.

Capacity Building: Hands-on training in advanced techniques for vegetable cultivation, fruit orchard management, and sustainable soil and water conservation.

Market Linkages: Facilitating connections to local and regional markets, enabling women to move from cultivation to commerce and secure better prices for their produce.

This integrated approach creates a powerful cycle of empowerment. As women gain knowledge and control over agricultural production, their household income and food security increase. This economic agency strengthens their decision-making power within families and communities, elevates their social status, and builds collective confidence.

By investing in women through agriculture, Sarbodaya Nepal does more than boost crop yields—we cultivate leaders, foster economic independence, and build a more equitable and food-secure foundation for entire communities.
