Project Name : Gender equality and women farmers support program.

Goal of the project: 

Promotion of gender equality (domestic violence, gender-based violence, child marriage, and chhaupadi elimination), women's workload reduction, improvement in sexual, reproductive, and menstrual health, income generation activities, and support in agricultural production to empower women of the backward classes of Jumla district to earn more money and become more independent.

 

Objectives of the project:

  • Improved enabling environment for supporting women’s economic empowerment by improving the production of vegetables and beans/potatoes with increased access to water, and technologies, farmers' capacities development in agriculture commercialization and support farmers for marketing local products
  • Improved women's and young girls' capacities to eliminate social and cultural barriers (gender stereotypes and other form of discrimination) for their holistic development
  • Improved situation of public health and child nutrition in the project area
  • Developed capacity and raised men’s awareness of gender issues and women's social, political, and economic conditions in Nepal to encourage them to support women.

1.  Summary of annual activities

Sarbodaya Nepal Jumla is a women lead organization and has been working for women's and girl's empowerment through various programs in Patarasi, Tatopani, and Tila rural municipalities of Jumla district, Karnali province. Sarbodaya Nepal Jumla implements integrated programs of women and girls' empowerment in collaboration with local governments, civil society organizations, and donor agencies. From 2023 to 2024 Sarbodaya Nepal Jumla has partnerships with Fondazione Un Raggio di Luce Onlus (FRL), FEMI foundation. The area of interventions and coverage are as follows:

Food and nutrition security activities: By targeting the marginalization, Sarbodaya Nepal Jumla supported poor and marginalized women-headed households, single women from Dalitas and Janjatis casts, and poor communities. Sarbodaya Nepal Jumla provided support on: income generation, commercial vegetable production, small scale grocery support, kitchen gardening support.  In the year 2022-2023.  535 women farmers were supported for income generating and nutirioin activities under projects.
